The Scottish Highland Cattle Society was formed in 1884 and most of the cattle registered were black. Originating in Scottland, the Highland cattle have long horns and long shaggy coats that can be black, brindle, red, yellow, or dun in color. They are mostly raised for their excellent quality of beef since it is low in cholesterol. Highland cattle can live up to 20 years and they can be used as house cows thanks to their good nature. The extremely harsh conditions created a process of natural selection, where only the fittest and most adaptable animals survived to carry on the breed. Vence Family Farm
